This food has the potential to kill you

You don’t feel like you’re hurting yourself when you eat it.

It tastes good.

It’s comforting.

It feels like a treat after a long day.

And that’s exactly the problem.

Ultra-processed foods are designed to be irresistible.

They light up your brain in a way real food doesn’t, making you crave more.

You love the taste and before you know it, they can start to feel harder to stop once you begin.

And while it doesn’t feel dangerous in the moment, overconsumption is what slowly drives chronic diseases that shorten lives.

One of my university tutors once said:
It doesn’t feel like you’re killing yourself when you eat these foods.’

And that’s true.

The damage happens slowly, over years, increasing the risk of conditions like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers.

Ultra-processed foods are also a major reason behind the obesity epidemic.

So how do you actually solve this without giving up everything you enjoy?

With a simple plan.

Aim for 80–90% of your diet to come from whole foods, and allow 10–20% for ultra-processed foods.

If that feels far away right now, start smaller.

Start by replacing one ultra-processed choice with a whole food choice.

For example:

  • Swap a packaged snack for a banana.
  • Replace a sugary bar with yoghurt and fruit.
  • Choose home-cooked meals more often than convenience foods.

When ultra-processed foods make up less of your diet, things start to change.

You have more energy.
Your body feels healthier.
You have a youthful glow.
You shine from the inside out.
Your mood improves — because these foods don’t just affect your weight, they affect how you feel.

Start small and keep it simple.
